SCHOOL-AGED
SELF-LED EXPERIENTIAL SOCIAL
Highland Children's House focuses on whole-child learning and development - for all ages, including those enrolled in the Highland County Public School system. Our mission is to support working families in Highland County, including childcare before and after school, on school closure days, and through our Summer Enrichment Program.
Each morning, the bus stops at the Children's House for our school-aged friends. While waiting for the bus, quiet activities such as reading and coloring are offered.
After school, the children are offered a nutritious snack and have an option to participate in structured activities such as recreational sports, arts and crafts, working with technology, gardening, and nature studies. Children are provided the time and space to unwind and focus on schoolwork, as needed.
We also offer care during scheduled and the occasional unscheduled school closings.
During summer break, Highland Children's House hosts a camp that introduces small workshops, local field trips, outings, and endless hours of outdoor recreation. Local residents lead experiential learning sessions that focus on character development, social skills, creativity, movement, critical thinking, and spontaneous fun!
