Enrollment applications for our Bath Location will be accepted starting February 1, 2024.
Infants
6 weeks - 16 months
Our aim in the infant environment is to provide childcare experiences that foster language, motor, cognitive and social-emotional development.
The children in this age group follow their own sleeping schedules and have their personal sleeping space either in a crib or a cot.
We proudly support breastfeeding mothers and follow infant-led weaning practices. Child size tables and chairs promote independent eating as the child is ready and able.
Weather permitting, we have a set time for outdoor play and exploration each day.
Toddlers
16 months - 3 years
In our toddler classroom, we strive to provide a childcare environment that facilitates independence, exploration, and discovery through active play. Our teachers are trained to support cognitive and social-emotional development through meaningful conversations and modeling.
The toddlers have set meal times for breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack. All meals adhere to USDA guidelines.
Children at this age group have a set rest time with their own bedding on a cot. Weather permitting, we have a set time for outdoor play and exploration each day.
Preschool
3 years - 5 years
Our preschool childcare program follows the Montessori approach to early childhood education and offers a homelike environment in which the child can follow their individual interests through engagement with materials that support motor, cognitive and social development. We encourage early independence and the development of life skills.
Our teachers are trained to facilitate academic growth and assess developmental needs and milestones while also providing support in developing social-emotional skills.
The preschool children assist in the preparation of their meals and snacks. The children also help plant, maintain, and harvest the onsite garden. All meals adhere to USDA guidelines.

Before-After School
5 years - 12 years
**Only offered at Monterey Location**
Highland Children's House focuses on whole-child learning and development - for all ages, including those enrolled in the Highland County Public School system. Our mission is to support working families in Highland County, including childcare before and after school, on school closure days, and through our Summer Enrichment Program.
Each morning, the bus stops at the Children's House for our school-aged friends. While waiting for the bus, quiet activities such as reading and coloring are offered.
After school, the children are offered a nutritious snack and have an option to participate in structured activities such as recreational sports, arts and crafts, working with technology, gardening, and nature studies. Children are provided the time and space to unwind and focus on schoolwork, as needed.
We also offer care during scheduled and the occasional unscheduled school closings.
During summer break, Highland Children's House hosts a camp that introduces small workshops, local field trips, outings, and endless hours of outdoor recreation. Local residents lead experiential learning sessions that focus on character development, social skills, creativity, movement, critical thinking, and spontaneous fun!
